UAMS Northwest Internal Medicine Residency Leadership Team Message

Dear Colleagues and Future Residents,

Welcome to the UAMS Northwest Internal Medicine Residency Program!  Located in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and established in 2015, our fully accredited, community-based program within the Department of Internal Medicine at the UAMS College of Medicine proudly trains 10 residents per year in a three-year categorical program leading to board certification in internal medicine.  Our primary clinical training sites are at Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas in Rogers, with additional experiences through the Veterans Health System of the Ozarks in Fayetteville. Together, these sites provide a diverse patient population and a broad range of clinical settings—from community hospital medicine to veteran-centered care—allowing residents to develop confidence and versatility early in training.

Our curriculum is built on a strong clinical foundation. Residents gain extensive inpatient experience through high-volume general medicine services, where they develop autonomy in clinical decision-making while working closely with dedicated teaching faculty. Our continuity clinic provides a meaningful outpatient experience, allowing residents to build long-term relationships with patients and develop skills in chronic disease management, preventive care, and care coordination. In addition, a wide range of subspecialty rotations—both inpatient and outpatient—expose residents to the depth and breadth of internal medicine and help guide future career decisions, whether in hospital medicine, primary care, or fellowship training.

We are a community-based program that values a supportive and collaborative learning environment. Our residents, faculty, and staff work closely together, creating a culture where questions are encouraged, teaching is prioritized, and everyone is invested in each other’s growth. We believe the best learning happens in an environment where people feel respected, supported, and challenged to improve.

Above all, we are committed to training thoughtful, capable physicians who are prepared for the next step in their careers. Whether your goal is to practice in the community or pursue a fellowship, we aim to provide the clinical experience, mentorship, and foundation you need to succeed.

We are excited to share our program with you and hope you will consider joining our community.

Warm regards,

The UAMS Northwest Internal Medicine Residency Leadership Team
