Faculty Teaching Award

This award was established in 2019.

This Faculty Teaching Award will be presented annually to an active faculty member in recognition of continuing excellence in teaching and mentoring, and of exemplary commitment to the education of internal medicine residents. This award recognizes a faculty member of the Northwest Internal Medicine Residency who has a personal commitment to internal medicine residents and their learning process and has demonstrated skills and interests in teaching. All faculty are eligible (VA, Mercy, UAMS, and off-site rotations).

Criteria

  • Demonstrates interest in teaching and training internal medicine residents.
  • Participates in patient and multidisciplinary education.
  • Demonstrates the ability to inspire and motivate residents and students.
  • Exhibits qualities of a physician role model for learners.

The recipient of this award is selected by resident ballot.

Subspecialty Faculty Teaching Award

This award was established in 2019.

This Subspecialty Faculty Teaching Award will be presented annually to an active subspecialty faculty member in recognition of continuing excellence in teaching and mentoring, and of exemplary commitment to the education of internal medicine residents. This award recognizes a subspecialty faculty member of the Northwest Internal Medicine Residency who has a personal commitment to internal medicine residents and their learning process and has demonstrated skills and interests in teaching. All subspecialty faculty are eligible (VA, Mercy, UAMS, and off-site rotations).

Criteria

  • Demonstrates interest in teaching and training internal medicine residents.
  • Participates in patient and multidisciplinary education.
  • Demonstrates the ability to inspire and motivate residents and students.
  • Exhibits qualities of a physician role model for learners.

The recipient of this award is selected by a resident ballot.

Intern of the Year Award

This award was established in 2020.

This award will be presented annually to recognize a PGY1 resident (Intern) who has demonstrated the highest performance among first-year residents in clinical competence, medical knowledge, professionalism, interpersonal and communication skills, receptiveness to feedback, timely mastery of system-based practice (EHR, facility workflow), fulfillment of responsibilities, and scholarly achievement.

Criteria

  • Most well-rounded intern as evidenced by clinical decision making, collegiality, work ethic, professionalism, team dynamics, communication, leadership, bedside manner, scholarship, etc.
  • Identifies one PGY-1 resident who actively engages and teaches medical students in an exemplary fashion.

The recipient of this award is selected by resident peer balloting and by all internal medicine faculty members.

Resident Teaching Award

This award was established in 2019.

This Resident Peer Teaching Award is presented annually to a PGY-2 or PGY-3 resident in recognition of exemplary overall performance in teaching and in the training of students and residents. This Resident Teaching Award honors an internal medicine resident who has demonstrated a strong interest in and commitment to internal medicine education, as well as a clear leadership role within the residency program.

Criteria

  • Demonstrates interest in teaching medical students.
  • Shows interest in Peer-to-peer mentorship, teaching, and training.
  • Creates a conducive clinical learning environment.
  • Exhibits leadership, professionalism, and communication skills that promotes delivery of effective team-based care.
  • Delivers consistent high-quality case presentations, didactics, journal clubs and other conference presentations.

Chief Resident Award

This award was established in 2019.

Given in appreciation for leadership and dedication to the residency program.

Clinical Excellence Award

This award was established in 2020.

This PGY1, PGY2, or PGY3 Resident Award (formerly the John Henley, M.D. Resident Award) will be awarded annually to recognize a resident who embodies the qualities of a wholesome physician, including a charismatic bedside manner, proficient clinical reasoning and diagnostic acumen, outstanding multidisciplinary communication skills, exemplary team-focused, high-quality care delivery, and a demonstrated commitment to responsibility and professionalism as a robust clinician.

Criteria

  • Promotes a positive attitude despite challenging circumstances.
  • Embodies an infectious enthusiasm.
  • Exhibits strong collaboration, a can-do attitude, and respect for the entire multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Demonstrates exceptional bedside manner and empathy for patients.
  • Demonstrates dedication to patient care, diagnostic skills, and humanism.

The recipient of this award is selected by all clinical and non-clinical staff who, together, care for our patients, alongside the residents at all our clinical training sites, including the VA, Mercy, UAMS, Highlands Oncology, and Mana.

The recipient will be chosen by attending physicians, nurses, APRNs, PAs, Clinical office administrative staff, and allied health (RT, PT, OT, etc.).
