Welcome from the Program Director

We are honored that you have an interest in training with our residency program. I joined the medical staff at Washington Regional Medical Center (WRMC) right out of residency and now have the privilege of leading the inaugural University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Regional Centers Emergency Medicine Residency Program here. I left my position in academic medicine at LSU and returned to start this program and serve as program director because I believe in mission, vision, and values of UAMS and in the people who are leading WRMC’s transformation to a major teaching hospital, in partnership with UAMS. I know the patient acuity and educational experience here is on par with major academic centers where I have worked. I have no doubt our people and patients will allow you to maximize your potential as an Emergency Medicine physician.
Our primary clinical site, WRMC, is the #1 ranked hospital in Arkansas for four years in a row. You will experience working in a busy Level 2 Trauma Center with a large catchment area involving Northwest Arkansas, Northeastern Oklahoma, and Southwest Missouri. We are the regional trauma, stroke, and STEMI center, so we have a high volume of patients in need. In fact, our Emergency Severity Index Level 1 triage rate of 2% is more than double the national average! Our admission rate is 20% with 4% of those admitted to critical care. Our dedicated core faculty work side-by-side with you in the ED, providing supervision and support as you develop as a physician and move towards autonomous practice by the end of your residency.
WRMC serves as the primary clinical site for multiple residency programs. In addition to EM, UAMS Regional Centers sponsors residency programs here in neurology, internal medicine, and family medicine. The UAMS College of Medicine also rotates general surgery residents at WRMC. This allows you to work on interdisciplinary teams during critical care rotations while still having ample space in the ED to lead resuscitations and gain competency on all required procedures. This will allow you to rapidly build confidence and push yourself to excel!
Pediatric emergency medicine rotations are completed six miles away at Arkansas Children’s Northwest Hospital. Our EM residents are the only residents rotating in this busy Level 4 Trauma Center, working side by side with pediatric emergency medicine physician faculty.
Outside of the hospital you will find out what makes our area a gem. We are in Northwest Arkansas which is the 100th biggest metro and 15th fastest growing area in the nation and routinely ranks in the U.S. News and World Report Top 10 Best Places to Live. On your days off, you can enjoy being in the mountain biking capital of the world, which the US National Mountain Bike Team calls home. We also have a world-renowned destination for trout fishing, a Southeastern Conference sports scene, and access to world class arts and culture provides for endless opportunities.
If you join us here in Fayetteville, you will receive excellent training in a nurturing environment dedicated to continuous learning and your growth as an emergency medicine physician as well as a person. I know being in the first class of residents at a new program seems daunting, but we are excited to have your input on what you want out of residency and for you to help us build the program. Just think about the ability to mold a program and look back with pride on what you have helped create. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions and congratulations on pursuing a career in Emergency Medicine!
Sincerely,

Cam Mosley, M.D.

We are the region’s only Level 2 trauma center, the only Joint Commission designated Comprehensive Stroke Center in the state, one of only two hospitals in the state to earn Advanced Spine Surgery certification from The Joint Commission, and the first hospital in the state to be certified as an Antibiotic Stewardship Center of Excellence.
