The Student Wellness Program at the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus provides medical and behavioral treatments related to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and we are happy to assist you. However, confirmatory diagnostic assessments for ADHD are not provided.
Online Screenings for ADHD
There are several online companies advertising assessments for ADHD. The diagnostic reports they provide are insufficient for clinical purposes as they are not face-to-face, not comprehensive, and typically lack the standardized assessment tools a qualified psychologist would use. Therefore, we can’t recommend online screenings.
Confirmatory ADHD Diagnostic Assessments
These are comprehensive evaluations involving an extended face-to-face assessment with a qualified psychologist, as well as a follow-up meeting to discuss results. Benefits of confirmatory ADHD diagnostic assessments include:
- Can help tease out ADHD from learning disorders and mental health concerns like depression and anxiety
- Offer clarity and insight about your diagnosis
- Can qualify you for certain disability accommodations at UAMS and if appropriate, certain medications prescribed by the Wellness Program or your personal medical provider
To pursue a confirmatory diagnostic assessment, you will receive charges from your testing provider. Insurance typically does not pay for the entire evaluation service. Be aware that you may incur some out-of-pocket charges. We advise you to ask what to expect your costs may be when you schedule an appointment. If you have trouble paying for a diagnostic assessment, check with your college about resources they recommend.
