The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Northwest Regional Campus is now accepting applications from students who will be entering the 11th or 12th grade and interested in exploring careers in health care for its two-week, intensive Medical Applications of Science for Health (MASH) programs.
The Rogers area program is hosted by Mercy Northwest on June 11-22, North Arkansas Medical Regional Center on June 11-22, and UAMS Northwest Regional Campus in Fayetteville on June 11-22.
There is no cost for students accepted to the program. The deadline for applications is March 16.
During the MASH program, students will participate in hands-on activities including dissection, casting/suturing and earning certification in CPR. The students also will job shadow health professionals in family and internal medicine, nursing, pharmacology, laboratory sciences, physical/occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology, radiation therapy, kinesiology and ophthalmology.
Application requirements:
- Must have been a high school sophomore or junior during the fall 2017 semester
- Have a 3.5 or higher grade point average
- Provide recommendations from a high school health or science teacher and a high school counselor
- Be able to attend the full two-week program, which meets from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Field trips may require 7 a.m. arrival on some days.
Applications for the 2017 MASH Program may be picked up in a high school counselor’s office or at the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus, 1125 N. College Ave., in Fayetteville.
