The Teen Outreach Program (TOP) is a three-year program that empowers teens to make healthy decisions and avoid risky behaviors. Curriculum lessons, community service learning activities, tools and resources will help youth identify sexual risk behaviors and employ practical skills to make smart choices in their relationships and health. The Office of Community Health and Research is partnering with the Springdale Public School District and local nonprofit youth agencies to provide the program to 1,200 ninth graders in the Springdale Public School District.
Community Service learning activities that our TOP youth accomplished during the inaugural TOP Club implementation in Spring 2020:
- 300+ Valentine’s Day cards for school staff and Arkansas Children’s Northwest Hospital
- 200 students made 220 turkey & ham sandwiches for seven fire stations, the police department and 18 resource officers in Springdale
- Students made Thank You cards for local firefighters and veterans at the VA Home
- Students researched volunteer opportunities for Springdale Animal Services and created Facebook posts made for individual animals available for adoption
- Teachers elected students for “Germ Patrol” who visited classrooms at scheduled times throughout the day to disinfect desks, tables, chairs, doorknobs, etc.
- Students created empathy cubes based on the lesson “Building Up.”
