Welcome from the Program Director

Thank you for your interest in our UAMS/Washington Regional Neurology Residency Program. Our program is committed to improving the health of the people that we serve by being the leader in the provision of high-quality neurologic treatment. Our neurology department – both faculty and residents – provide comprehensive, evidence-based neurologic care through prevention, early detection, intervention, and education in the care of patients with neurologic disorders. The mission of this program is to develop highly skilled, empathetic, professional, and resilient physicians who excel in the practice of neurology no matter where they ultimately choose to practice.
In our program, you learn and practice in a community-based hospital, but with the standards and rigor commonly found in an academic medical center. We train residents in clinical reasoning, critical thinking, teaching, research, and high-value health care delivery to diverse and under-served populations in Northwest Arkansas and the surrounding regions. The neurology residency program emphasizes research and quality improvement to ensure the highest standards of evidence-based neurology medicine. Our residents engage with a faculty group who are passionate about teaching, while training in the state’s top-ranked hospital.
You have many options for residency training in the South Central region of the US. At UAMS and Washington Regional, we hope to provide an optimal personalized four-year learning experience to prepare you for success in clinical practice. If you have questions after browsing through our site, please feel free to reach out to us anytime!

Simply put – we are passionate about our role in your journey.

Our vision is to be the best place to receive care and the best place for our people to provide care, and our state-of-the-art graduate medical education facilities provide a supportive, efficient, and pleasant workspace for your years in training.
Washington Regional Medical Center is a 425-bed community hospital that provides comprehensive medical and surgical care. We are particularly proud of our strength in neurosciences. Our neurologists are fellowship trained in vascular, epilepsy, movement disorder as well as neuromuscular disease, and are partnered with fellowship trained neurointerventional radiologists and a strong team of neurosurgeons. We are the region’s only Level 2 trauma center, the only Joint Commission designated Comprehensive Stroke Center in the state, one of only two hospitals in the state to earn Advanced Spine Surgery certification from The Joint Commission, and the first hospital in the state to be certified as an Antibiotic Stewardship Center of Excellence. Additionally, we are home to the region’s only dedicated neurosurgical intensive care unit and two additional critical care units for a total of 60 beds allocated for critical care. These critical care services are led by a team of pulmonary critical care specialists and are supported by all areas of subspecialty care in internal medicine and surgery. For these reasons and more, Washington Regional Medical Center has been named the #1 hospital in Arkansas by U.S. News & World Report for five consecutive years.
I hope you will take the next step in your journey with Washington Regional Medical Center and grow a successful career while helping us achieve our mission of improving the health of people in the communities we serve.
