Message from the Program Director
Thank you for your interest in our UAMS Regional Centers Rural Track Program (Berryville/Eureka Springs) Family Medicine Residency. The mission of this program is to strengthen the physician workforce for rural underserved communities and to support trainees and practitioners who have a passion for caring for underserved rural communities. Our goal is to create an academic-quality family medicine program in a community setting.
This program trains residents in clinical reasoning, critical thinking, research, and providing the full-scope of family practice services to meet the healthcare needs of rural communities, in service to the people of Northwest Arkansas and the surrounding region.
The success of our program is essential to meeting the healthcare needs of Arkansans and aligns with our regional and institutional missions to educate future healthcare professionals and provide patient-centered primary and specialized care at an academic level not otherwise available in this region. Improving access to care for rural Arkansans and graduate medical education growth are primary goals of the UAMS Institutional Mission.
Our program is new, but we have the partnership and support of a well-established family medicine residency program and faculty with years of experience in teaching and resident education. Our partner program, the UAMS Northwest Family Medicine Residency based in Fayetteville, Arkansas, was established in the 1970s, and also supports a Sports Medicine Fellowship program in which fellows care for all levels of athletes, from high school students to professionals, and serve as official providers of care for the University of Arkansas Razorback athletic teams.
Our trainees rotate in hospitals with world-class facilities and a strong institutional commitment to graduate medical education. Our faculty are engaged and excited about teaching and research as they train the next generation of family medicine physicians.
We know you have many options for residency training, both in Arkansas and beyond, and we appreciate your interest in our program. Northwest Arkansas – both our urban and our rural areas – have much to offer, and we are excited at the possibility of sharing that all with you during your residency training. Like many of us, you may find that once you’re here, you feel at home.
If you have any questions after browsing through our site, please feel free to reach out to us.
Thank you,
Ronald Brimberry, M.D.
